Deep Dive In Narmada Nagar
Indira Sagar Power Project
ISP, commonly known as Narmada Nagar, is a less known, yet extensive town situated at the cliffs of river Narmada in Madhya Pradesh. The interesting thing about the Indirasagar dam is, it has the largest reservoir in Asia, according to Wikipedia! Known for hydropower generation of 1,000MW installed volume, the Indira Sagar Dam, as a matter of fact, is the largest reservoir in India, with a capacity of 12.22 Billion Cubic metres in expressions of water accommodation.
Attractions Of Narmada Nagar
Apart from being an immense generator of electricity, the dam is a major site tourist attraction. It offers enjoyable site scenes, especially in the rainy season. The river Narmada, in winters and summers, becomes like a slice of mellow harmony between aromatic leaves. The rain washes the trees and the soil and paints the town green. Once the dam reservoir gets full, and the gates are open, the landscapes become as marvellous as they could be.
A Glimpse At Flora and Fauna
Talking about vegetation, this place is full of lush greenery and mostly Teak trees are found here. The forest around the town is home to many rare varieties of plants. Animals like leopards, lions, snakes, baboons, monkeys, deer, foxes, Indian giant squirrels and many more are often seen here. Lately, a fully grown lion was seen near the dam gallery. Snake sightings are common along the edge of Narmada Nagar residential areas. The greenery, peace, and positivity in the air of Narmada Nagar add a peculiar charm to its beauty.
The Town Lifestyle
Established on the banks of river Narmada, this town comprises almost 9000 people (as per the census 2011), a major school (Kendriya Vidyalaya) along with some small private schools, hospitals and other institutes to fulfil basic needs. The common language practised among the local people is Nimari and the local means of livelihood or earning is the fishery, woodcutting and selling, and some small businesses.
Narmada Nagar And Memories
Having spent almost eight years here, I got introduced to infinite memories and worth remembering experiences. My life at Kendriya Vidyalaya was absolutely wondrous that gave me a bag of exceptional memories as a return gift.
The moments we used to give weird names to our teachers and to friends, and the weird prankishness we did during school hours were indeed fun. I still remember that time of nationals in the exhibition when we fired crackers in the girls' washroom and luckily, we were saved from being caught. It was fun but a close shave, though!
The teachers of KVS like Ashwani sir, Malti ma'am, Alok sir, Shravan Sir, Santoshi ma'am and many more are the unsung heroes of my life and words in the dictionary are insufficient to express my sense of gratitude towards them.
Moreover, the times of Science and SST exhibition, Youth Parliament, in the company of my mischievous friends is one of the golden moments of my life!
Summing up, I'll say that as everyone else prefers staying indoors during monsoon, it's your chance to enjoy the breezy, calm and soothing weather that adds a certain thrill to the ambience of one's regular lifestyle.
